JPJ shutters e-hailing firm operating with expired license

PETALING JAYA: The road transport department’s (JPJ) investigations into unlicensed e-hailing service providers have uncovered one company which has been operating without a valid operating licence.

In a statement, JPJ said it found that e-hailing provider inDriver has been operating with an expired license following a raid on the company’s office in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 7.

“JPJ officers confiscated computers and advertising material to assist with the investigation,” it said, adding that the raid was conducted after it received information from the land public transport agency (Apad).

JPJ said the company could be charged under Section 12A(1)(8) of the Land Public Transport Act 2010, which provides for a maximum RM500,000 fine, up to three years in jail or both.

The department said it would be keeping an eye on e-hailing firms in Malaysia, urging operators to comply with the law and ensure they have a valid license.

It also advised users to ensure that the e-hailing firms they use were registered with the department and licensed.
